Learning Boating Without Owning One — I'm Razvan, and Here's My Story

I’ve always felt a deep connection to the sea. There’s something about being on the water — the freedom, the calm, the views — that just makes me feel alive. Big boat, small boat, doesn’t matter. If I’m on it, I’m happy.

Why I’m Doing This?

I’m especially drawn to motorboats. Maybe it’s the simplicity, the power, or just the idea of cruising without needing to master sails and knots. Sailboats seem a bit too technical for me at this stage — though who knows, maybe I just haven’t spent enough time on one to truly appreciate it.

Truth is, I don’t own a boat. And realistically, I might never afford to buy one — not with all the maintenance, mooring, and upkeep costs that come with it. But that hasn’t stopped me from falling in love with everything about them.

Why BoatingMan?

I created BoatingMan to document my journey of learning the way of the sea without owning a boat — something I’m sure many of you can relate to.

I’m exploring:

  • What it really takes to get into boating;
  • Licenses, safety rules, regulations, and sea signs;
  • Maintenance, gear, and the difference between "must-haves" and "nice-to-haves";
  • Costs — real, honest numbers;
  • Boat tech, design, and engineering;
  • And yes, even the odd facts and fun stories along the way.

What I’m Hoping to Learn?

I want to understand everything — from buying a boat to living aboard one day (if the seasickness doesn’t win). This isn’t a site from an expert or a captain. It’s a learning journal, from one boat-loving dreamer to another.

Thanks for stopping by — and welcome aboard.
